Parent Portal - Important Announcement

Mississippi State University recognizes you as an important influence in your student's life. Beginning today, students can authorize MSU to grant a parent or guardian access to certain education records through the University's new Parent Portal online system. Information in the parent portal is available for you to assist your son and daughter in navigating through their college experience. (Parent portal information includes, but is not limited to, the following: class schedules, grades, class absences, and accounts receivable information.) Students will receive an email today about how to sign you up for access to the new Parent Portal.

Note: Once the student has granted you access to the Parent Portal, your authenticity will be verified via the following information. Please have this information available when you contact MSU about your student.

Fall is finally in the air and the weather is getting a bit nippy! Mississippi State University is in the spotlight right now with our current football rankings, Hail State! What an opportunity to show off everything there is to love about being a Bulldog. Thanks to some national media attention, many are discovering our Stark Vegas jewel for the first time. Exciting times...

Have you registered for Bulldog Family Weekend (February 27-March 1, 2015) yet? Plans are in the works to give parents a True Maroon Family experience. Please join us and find out why your student loves being part of the Bulldog family! The cost is set at $50 per person ($38 without a commemorative t-shirt) and will include the following: a get together Friday night for parents, a pass to the entire baseball series (including a s'mores/hot chocolate bar in leftfield lounge during one of the games), a continental style breakfast Sunday for parents and students, and a Parent Weekend t-shirt. Other events will include a special guest lecture, and a program by Executive Director of the Career Center & Cooperative Education, Scott Maynard, plus many other fun opportunities. A Note from Housing and Residence Life

It has been a great fall semester in the Department of Housing and Residence Life with exciting programs, valuable educational and awareness events, and thriving community in all of our residence halls! As we quickly approach Winter Break, below is important information for students regarding closing in the residence halls:

We would like to give you some dates to remember for the Spring Semester. If your student is interested in living on campus again for the 2015-2016 term, our housing contract renewal process (RSVP) will begin on February 2, 2015. Emails and reminders will be sent to your student regarding this process via their MSU Bully Mail account.

A Note from the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center

Crunch Week - December 1-4 The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center is committed to the success and retention of students here at the University. To aid in fostering an environment that is conducive to learning and assist in the preparation for Final Examinations, we will be extending our office hours December 1-4 until 10:00 pm so that your child will have the opportunity to utilize our space for studying, class projects, tutoring, and any other tool needed to prepare for Final Examinations. We hope that you can encourage your student to take advantage of our space on the 2nd Floor of the Colvard Student Union in Suite 220!

International Education Week (IEW) - November 17-21 Just a few of the events will include: Kickoff: Ice Cream Social - Distribute the MSU ice-creams of different flavors. Open to everyone, ISAB students will be there to pass the ice-cream. Starkville Mosque Tour: Guided tour to Mosque located at Starkville. Students will get chance to see the settings of Mosque and gain information about Muslims prayers and much more. Coffee, Culture and Conversation: Conversation with Dr. Rani Sullivan from Aerospace Engineering with a free cup of coffee at Starbucks. Discussion concerning the pros and cons of acclimating to life in the states for international and many interacting topics with american students. The International Student Support Group: Group counselling for students by Dr. Victoria Nguyen and Susan Boafo-Arthur at Student Counseling Service Office, Hathorn Hall. "The Night Train to Kathmandu" - Movie: Nepali movie to showcase Nepali culture and tradition. A story about an american girl who leaves to Nepal with her parents. A Note from the Center for Student Activities

R.J. Mitte

R.J. Mitte rose to fame playing Walt White Jr. on TV's critically acclaimed AMC drama, "Breaking Bad", but he plans to promote equality when he visits Mississippi State University.

His public presentation will be held Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium. Tickets are free and may be picked up at the door. They also are available in advance from the Center for Student Activities, event sponsor, in suite 314, Colvard Student Union.

After Mitte speaks, a moderated Q-and-A session will follow.

Holiday in the Junction

The annual Holiday in the Junction will take place Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. in The Junction and is open to the public. Activities will include music, activities, and the lighting of the university Christmas tree.

A Note from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life

It is an exciting time to be at Mississippi State and a part of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Our chapters are wrapping up their new member processes and are excited about initiating another great group of students into our organizations.

We continue to fundraise for our Habitat for Humanity community service project. Fraternity & sorority members are raising funds to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a Starkville family. Our chapter members will begin construction in January and will dedicate the home during Greek Week in April. If you are interested in finding out more about this service project please visit

MSU Student Health Insurance Plan

Open enrollment for the MSU Student Health Plan is open until January 31, 2015 for students interested in enrolling /re-enrolling for Spring 2015. For information on the MSU Health Plan go to the MSU Student Health Center website and link to Insurance.

A Note from MSU Barnes & Noble - Rental Textbooks

Did your student rent textbooks from Barnes & Noble? The last day to return rental textbooks is Friday, December 12. Encourage your student to avoid replacement fees by returning rental textbooks by 7pm on this day. If your student is unsure as to whether or not a book is a rental, tell him/her to come by the bookstore and check before selling back any rental textbooks.‚Äč
